DIY Party Hat Banner for First Birthday

I wanted to quickly share a fun and easy DIY party decoration for baby’s first birthday! This is something you can bring out year after year! It makes a great source of both decoration and entertainment at your party— who doesn’t love looking a cute baby faces and seeing how much your baby has changed?!

We started doing this with our first child (Cam) and it was always a hit at his parties. We still have it and bring it out even though he’s 6. He loves looking at what he used to look like as a baby too, it’s so fun! We now did this for our fourth child, Teddy’s first birthday party and everyone loved it!

Supplies:

All you need to get this done is:

  • Large printed photos (we use Walgreens) in 5x7 (we also cropped the photo where it was mostly the face/head before printing). You can choose to do black/white or color

  • Construction paper of your color choice/party theme

  • Hot glue gun

  • Scissors

  • Medium pom-poms

  • String or twine

How-To:

  1. Cut out the face and head (#allthedetails) from your photos

  2. Cut large triangles from construction paper to make the “party hats” for the baby heads

  3. Hot glue your triangle party hats at the top of baby’s head

  4. Hot glue the pom-poms at the top of the party hat

  5. Once everything is dry, flip over your baby heads with glued on party hats. Space them apart appropriately for how you want them to hang on the twine. The, hot glue the twine to the back of the baby faces. Make sure the twine is not too low on the baby head or the photo may tend to flip over (I usually hot glue toward the upper middle of the back of the baby face).

  6. Hang it up and Enjoy!

Enjoy!!!

Let me know if you make one for your baby! I would love to see it! Here are some fun photos from our party!

Storage

To keep for later and bring out for years to come, just fold your banner up (with each face on top of eachother in a pile) and place it in a clear ziplock bag to keep with your party decor!

This keeps it all together and prevents tangling or losing poms, etc.

Another fun way to personalize your baby’s party:

Face stickers!

We had ordered these and placed them on all of the kids’ “goodie bags” for a fun little personalized touch! Plus, I had already ordered them for placing on my waterbottles and pumping cooler/equipment for a fun touch anyway! They are waterproof and super durable. We had just purchased regular black kraft bags for the goodie bags and I thought that putting the sticker on them and setting them out on the table almost serves as a type of “decor” too!
